Reading Readiness

Our Pre-Kindergarten 4 students utilize a reading readiness program from The Rowland Reading Foundation called Happily Ever After. It is a program that teaches early literacy skills through a rich curriculum and highly motivating multimodal approach. The following is a quick overview of the program.

  • Story structure and appreciation
  • Print and book awareness
  • Letter recognition and naming
  • Auditory discrimination
  • Phonological and phonemic awareness
  • Fine motor skills: cutting, folding, gluing, tracing, coloring, using a pencil
  • Recognizing 10 colors and 8 shapes
  • Instructional concepts and vocabulary, such as same and different; in, on; top, middle, bottom
  • Oral language development
  • Emergent writing through children’s dictation

Logical-Mathematical Thinking

Our Pre-Kindergarten 4 program provides the students with opportunities to organize and express their understanding of common properties and attributes of things. The child will:

  • Demonstrate understanding of one to one correspondence
  • Group, count, and graph various objects
  • Recognize simple patterns and duplicate or extend them
  • Recognize and name various shapes
  • Order several objects
  • Show special awareness
  • Recognize that the clock and calendar are measurement tools of time and space.
